Aamodt's Apple Farm and Stillwater
Rob, Zoe and I took my mom to Aamodt's Apple Farm on Saturday. On this particular weekend they were supposed to have hot air balloons and my mom loves photographing the balloons so I thought it was a great weekend to go. Well, the weather didn't really cooperate so they were unable to launch any balloons - we went anyway. It was a little chilly but it was still a great fall day to go and pick some apples and hang out in Stillwater.
We arrived at Aamodt's and headed over to the barn. They have a petting zoo, pony rides, etc for the kids - obviously Zoe is still a bit small for any of those activities but it was fun to see the other kids playing and looking forward to next year when she will be able to be down there getting in to the fun!
The apple farm is also the St. Croix Vineyard. We walked through some of the grapes and snapped a couple of pics.
We headed over to the apple barn and checked out what they had in stock. I had already decided that we weren't really going to "pick" our own. Simply because I am an apple snob when it comes right down to it. I like my honeycrisp and they don't have those for picking - so we "pick" from the barrel! Which I think is just as fun! We tried a new variety this year too - Vestar or something like that - it's a new variety being grown at the U of M. I figure we are supporting local agriculture and they are very similar to honeycrisp and they are quite tasty.
We wandered through the barn picking up apples and other treats and stopping for a family shot!
On the way out we decided we should at least pretend we picked our own apples and pose for some shots! My mom was happy to oblige! We also managed to make our way through the vineyard's wine tasting area - we had to taste the local flavor! We ended up leaving with a couple of bottles to enjoy with our apples! hehe!
After the apple picking adventures we headed in to downtown Stillwater to have some lunch. We walked around town a little bit checking out some of the local shops. We took my mom in to our favorite store in Stillwater and we ended up leaving with a very cool snowsuit for Zoe! Thanks momma! We also stumbled by a pumpkin growers contest. We saw some of the biggest pumpkins I have ever seen in my life! It was pretty funny! And so random!
We enjoyed a great lunch at the Mad Capper. They have great food - this time I had a burger that had guacamole and pepperjack cheese - it was so good! I realize the fat content because of the avacado may have been a bit extreme - but at least its good fat! And it tasted even better! We also had a little fun with Zoe. We gave her a lemon and let her decide if it was a taste she liked or not. She made some classic faces and just kept putting it back in her mouth! She couldn't get enough!
After lunch we took a stroll through town and then walked down by the water. It was windy so it was a little cold. it didn't seem to bother Zoe any. She was quite spent after the long day so she napped in her stroller.
We had a great day and it will be a great memory and a trip I will want to take every year with Zoe and any other little Hendrickson's that may come our way!
